Stevens Point Brewery plans more changes

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - After expanding its capacity 25 percent this year with a $2 million project, Stevens Point Brewery said Thursday it will invest $1.5 million in equipment and other improvements next year.

The upgrades are needed to “meet the non-stop growth” in demand for the brewery's handcrafted beers and will permit the company to create eight new jobs, said operating partner Joe Martino.

Our business continues to grow across the board,” he said in a statement. “It's an exciting time for the Stevens Point Brewery.”

The brewery, founded in 1857, makes its flagship Point Special Lager and several specialty beers. The company launched Ciderboys hard cider products in 2012.

The 2014 improvements will include electrical and cooling system upgrades, installation of three more unitanks for fermenting and aging beer and purchase of 1,000 kegs for its draft beer business, Martino said.

The company said the improvements represent the fifth major expansion since 2010.

The brewery's annual production capacity is 150,000 barrels.
