Schools being cautious with cold weather

WAUSAU (WAOW) - With the cold weather, schools in our area are playing it safe.

Grant Elementary School in Wausau now has indoor recess. The school is also offering more hot entrees like soup to help students stay warm. The principal says even though students may feel trapped staying inside, it's for a good reason.

"Keeping them inside just ensures that we're not incurring any of those medical concerns that children can encounter when there's exposed skin outside in temperatures this cold," said Chris Nyman, principal of Grant Elementary.

The principal says once temperatures reach above zero degrees with the wind chill, students can go outside for recess again.
