Community leaders on shopping spree for kids

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - Stevens Point community leaders and their children went on a shopping spree Monday night.

They spent more than $8000 to buy more than 800 toys.

The spree at Shopko in Stevens Point benefited Toys for Tots of Portage County.

The money came from businesses and people living in central Wisconsin.

"It delivers a message of hope to children that may have not otherwise received a toy and I think that message of hope is what's most important that children know that with that toy that tomorrow is going to be better and that somebody cares about them," said Jami Gebert, coordinator for Portage County Toys for Tots.

Shopko offered discounts on the toys purchased.
