WAUSAU (WAOW) -
Stores in Marathon County are feeling the final holiday shopping rush. The last Saturday and Sunday before Christmas is one of the busiest holiday shopping weekends, according to ShopperTrak, which analyzes foot traffic at malls.
With only four shopping days left, retailers say the atmosphere is hectic.
"We've really seen it ramp up in the last few days, so obviously you're getting people with a heightened sense of urgency," said Jason Schlefer, the Best Buy General Manager. "They want to come in. They want their stuff and they have a short amount of time, so we've got to be on point with that. "
The busy shopping weekend is a much needed boost after a slow couple weeks. About twenty percent fewer customers shopped in stores last week compared to the same time last year, according to ShopperTrak.
Some shoppers, however, are enjoying the last-minute deals.
"I saved a lot of money today," said Logan Paul, a shopper. "It was nice."
The National Retail Federation estimates total holiday sales will reach more than $600 billion.
