Skiiers from across the state made their way to Wausau this weekend for the Aspirus Nordic Challenge, held at Greenwood Hills Country Club.
The sprints portion of the competition took place Saturday and the Wausau Nordic ski team was well represented in the high school finals.
In the girls A-finals, three of the six racers were from Wausau Nordic. Kaitlyn Lindaman from Wiona Nordic crossed the finish line first followed by Elizabeth Slaby from Ashwaubenon. Hailey Scandin from Wausau Nordic finished third.
On the boys side of the A-finals, Wausau Nordic's own Fletcher Arlen took home the gold, in front of Aswaubenon's Andrew Bailey and Chippewa Valley's Ben Theyerl.
The wausau west junior says his top finish came as a surprise.
"It felt great because I came here expecting a pretty good finish but I never expected to be on top," said Arlen.
"I got to the top of the big hill and found out I was in the lead and I knew I had it at that point. Last year when didn't have that great of a year, it was a rebuilding year. So to have people on the podium this year is great."
