Family of five escapes serious injury in crash

ROTHSCHILD (WAOW) – A family of five from Green Bay escaped serious injury Tuesday when their car went out of control on an icy highway, slide into a ditch, rolled over and struck a bridge pillar, investigators said.

Rothschild Police Sgt. Kevin Ostrowski said the driver, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injures and three of her children, who were in car seats or booster seats, were taken to a hospital as a precaution. The father was not hurt, he said.

The family was on a Christmas trip and had the family dog along, he said.

The crash happened about 8:15 a.m. on westbound state Highway 29 near the intersection of Interstate 39.

The driver was driving too fast for conditions, as the highway was “very slippery” early Tuesday, Ostrowski said.

The car was pretty well smashed. It went sideways in the ditch and the rear of the vehicle struck a bridge pillar,” he said.

The children in the car were ages 4, 5 and 7, Ostrowski said.
