Winter weather advisory active tonight

Another round of snow is expected to impact areas of Wisconsin tonight and on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service will have a winter weather advisory active for nearly all of central and northern Wisconsin tonight. That includes Vilas, Oneida, Lincoln, Langlade, Shawano, Forest, Florence, Marathon, Waupaca, Waushara, Wood, Price, Ashland, Iron, Clark, Taylor, Jackson and Portage Counties from 8 p.m. tonight until 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The situation we have is a fast moving system that is expected to drop snow and kick up the wind overnight. That could reduce visibilities and make for slick road conditions.

In terms of snow accumulation it seems a widespread 2 to 4" is likely for most backyards from tonight through Wednesday. View the radar here.

On Christmas, highs are expected near 20. Snow showers are expected with southwest winds at 10 to 15 mph. Travel with caution during the holiday as the snow could make for some slippery road conditions.

Much colder air is expected to filter into the state on Thursday. Afternoon highs are forecast at just 8 degrees, with overnight lows near -4. Most of Thursday is expected to be dry, through a few snow showers may sneak into the region by Thursday night.

Friday and Saturday are expected to have warmer temperatures with highs in the upper teens and mid 20s. Friday appears mostly cloudy and quiet. Saturday brings the chance for some light snow.

The larger story at play for the final days of 2013 is the expected temperature drop off. Temps are expected to fall through the teens on Sunday, with overnight lows on Sunday night well below zero. Highs on Monday may struggle to break zero, and that appears to be the case at this point in time on New Year's Eve Day on Sunday.
