Last minute Christmas shopping

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Long lines and even bigger crowds filled stores in Central Wisconsin as people felt the rush to finish their Christmas shopping.

“We had some last minute gifts to get," said Keegan Olson of River Falls.

“Just trying to pick up a few last minute things," said Bettina Peters of Marathon.

Target, the Wausau Mall, and Shopko saw a flood of customers. Last minute shoppers say they waited until Christmas Eve to buy gifts because they just haven't had the time.

“We had that short period between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year,” said Peters. “So it kind of cut the shopping time short."

“Just didn't quite get around to it,” said Olson. “We were just busy with work and the kids and stuff."

Store workers agree.

“It's been busy to say the least,” said Hannah Vorpagel, the executive team leader at Target. “A lot of people are getting their odds and ends, last minute items."

“I think a lot of people are stressed,” said Ashley Wood, the customer service specialist at Shopko. “Anxiety is high because it's obviously the last day."

Some found everything they needed, while others weren't so lucky.

“Some of the items on my list are out of stock of course because it's last minute shopping,” said Peters. “But we've had pretty good luck."

So as the shopping frenzy comes to a close, shoppers can cross all their presents off their lists and put them under the tree.

The stores had limited hours due to the holiday.
