Fans celebrate Rodgers' return

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Packers fans have been waiting patiently for Aaron Rodgers' return. Now they're celebrating Thursday's announcement that Rodgers will lead the team against the Bears on Sunday.

Many fans say they never gave up on Rodgers or the Packers. But now that he's back, they're more confident in a playoff run.

"It's like the Wisconsin people are in Candy Land right now," said Pete Stelmacher, an employee at Packerland Plus at the Wausau Center Mall.

Green Bay Packers Coach Mike McCarthy made the announcement about Rodgers' return Thursday.

"We're prepared for the Chicago Bears with Aaron Rodgers as our starting quarterback," said McCarthy.

"It's good to hear. I'm ready for it," said Dale Soppe of Schofield, one of many fans waiting for some positive news about Rodgers for weeks. "It's been too long."

"I knew he'd come back. With a playoff chance, he had to be back," added fan Dexter Depasse of Merrill.

Workers at Packerland Plus say this announcement has completely changed customers' moods. They said before Christmas, customers were mopey. Now, they're more ready to shop.

"Just because it was green and gold they were still buying it but now they have something to buy for," said Stelmacher.

But some say Rodgers isn't a cure-all for the green and gold.

"I don't think the offensive line is going to be that great. Hopefully they can hold up for him. That's my biggest fear," said Megan Beisner of Wausau.

Others are more confident.

"The chances are 100% with Aaron Rodgers," said fan David Sabo.

"I hope they're going to win. And I'm pretty sure they're going to win," added young fan Gracie Lake.

Many Packers fans hope with Rodgers on the field, the Pack can go all the way.

"This is just like that year a couple of years ago when they won the Super Bowl. Rodgers coming off the big injury, win the last game, and you could on and win the Super Bowl really," said Depasse.

Some of the fans did say they're a little worried that Rodgers will come back rusty. But they said even a rusty-Rodgers is better than a back-up.
