Update: Packers change report on Wausau blackout rule

GREEN BAY (WAOW) - A spokesperson for the Green Bay Packers is now saying they have made a clarification regarding a possible television blackout.

Packers spokesperson Aaron Popkey tells Newsline 9 the Wausau TV market would be included in a blackout if the Packers cannot sell out of tickets for Sunday's NFC wild card game vs. San Francisco 49ers. Popkey originally told Newsline 9 the Wausau market would not be affected, but says he just clarified with the NFL that Wausau would be blacked out due to league rules.

"There was some confusion to Wausau and its status if it was in the home market or the blackout market and those two don't always coincide under NFL policy. So while Wausau is not in the Packers home market, per se, according to the NFL it is in the blackout market area," said Popkey.

Thousands of tickets are still available for Sunday's game at Lambeau Field. As of 5:00 p.m. Wednesday about 7,500 tickets are still for sale. The Packers must sell out before 3:40 p.m. Thursday.
