Athlete of the Week: Amherst's Jaimee Pitt

Basketball runs in Jaimee Pitt's family. Her dad, Jay, is the coach of the Amherst girls basketball team that she plays on. And her sister, Jenna, plays for the Pointers.

But while our Athlete of the Week is inspired by her big sis, Jaimee Pitt wants to carve a path of her own.

Jaimee Pitt heard her sister's name, instead of her own, at least twice last weekend, when the Amherst senior was playing basketball at the 42nd Sentry Classic.

It's worth noting that the tournament, is played on her sister's college court.

"It gets under my skin a little bit. She's been announced as Jaimee as a Pointer so it's probably worse for her than it is for me," Pitt said. "I don't get mad but, I'm Jaimee come on."

The Amherst senior learned a lot from her sister, Jenna, who is a guard for the Pointers.

"She's taught me to work hard. I know my goals are beacuse of what she's been through. They went to state, they were champions, that's been my goal since I was young. Watching her do it makes me want to do it even more."

But make no mistake, Jenna and Jaimee are not the same person, on or off the court.

"She looks to make shots for other people where I like to be the one to catch and shoot. We do our own things," Jaimee Pitt said. "We don't like being compared with each other. It's an honor. She's a great player. I think she'd say the same thing about me."

While Jenna wears the Purple and Gold at Point, Jaimee will wear the Purple and White at Winona State next fall.
