Marathon County gets new K-9 unit

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department is making some new additions to the force.

Two new K-9 officers were introduced to the community Thursday. Both dogs are trained and ready to hit the streets.

Marathon County Sheriff Scott Parks says the department hasn't had a K-9 unit for at least 20 years.

"Primary jobs are patrol dogs and they have a secondary job of narcotics or controlled substances," said Parks. "So they'll be looking at patrol aspects and searching for controlled substances, drugs."

A third K-9 and a new handler will start on Monday.

The K-9 program is paid for by donations. If you'd like to donate, visit
