UPDATE: Victim in Wausau shooting identified

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Wausau Police have identified the victim in a shooting early Friday morning as KC Christopher Elliot, 27.

Authorities say the shooting happened just after 1:30 a.m. at Sidetracked Bar on South 3rd Avenue. They say John Lewis, 30, shot Elliot in the stomach after a fight outside the bar concerning money.

Police say Elliot was taken to Aspirus Hospital where he had emergency surgery and several more procedures throughout the day, before passing away around 6:00 p.m. Friday.

Officials say Lewis was taken to jail without incident several hours after the shooting. They say after an extensive search, the gun used in the shooting has still not been found.

Police say the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Lewis is being held on a warrant at the Marathon County Jail. Police say witnesses at the scene of the shooting identified Lewis as the shooter.
Official charges have not been filed.

Police say they don't know when they will recommend charges as this time.
