UPDATE: Gov. Walker encouraging schools to make decisions on closings

Governor Scott Walker's office says it is continuing to monitor weather conditions that are expected to hit our area early next week. The office originally said the governor was considering the possibility of closing schools for the entire state.

The office is now encouraging local governments and school districts to make the decision regarding closings.

Here is the latest statement from Gov. Walker's spokesman:

"Governor Walker will continue to monitor conditions day-to-day as it relates to the operation of state government. Local governments and school districts are encouraged to make individual determinations regarding school and government closures. Wisconsin Emergency Management is working closely with local and regional partners to provide any resources necessary during this time."
