Police putting safety first in cold temperatures

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Police are reminding people to keep safety first in this frigid weather.

Some tips include wearing numerous layers of clothing and keeping extra supplies like blankets and some food in your car. They say small steps like these can help keep people out of danger.

"It's going to be a shock to your system and if you're not properly dressed for it you can certainly get hypothermia and quite quickly," said Lt. Mark Pankow of the Wausau Police Department.

Police say they have received few calls Monday about cold weather emergencies.
