Governor Walker reacts to NewPage buyout

MOSINEE (WAOW) - Gov. Scott Walker neither praised nor criticized the buyout of three central Wisconsin paper mills during a stop in Mosinee Friday.

Tennessee-based Verso Paper is buying NewPage, which has about 1,700 workers in Wisconsin, in a deal to be finalized later this year. NewPage has mills in Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point and Biron.

Walker says he wants to change the business climate for manufacturing in the state, rather than focus on individual companies like NewPage.

"We want to make the best business environment possible," said Walker. "So that no matter who the owner is of any of these facilities, they'll want to do business in the state of Wisconsin."
