Icy roads in Marathon County cause dozens of weather related incidents

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) - Crews have been trying to clean up snowy roads in central Wisconsin Saturday, but messier roads Friday night resulted in dozens of slide offs.

Marathon County Sheriff's Department officials says they responded to approximately 30 weather related incidents overnight. In Portage County, officials there say another 23 incidents were from these icy roads. Officials say they may know why all these occurred.

"People forget in Wisconsin that the weather changes quickly and it's been a couple of weeks since we've had any snow,” said Battalion Chief Paul Czarapata of the Wausau Fire Dept. “It's been very cold, but no snow. So people want to get out and driving around we forget it gets slippery."

Officials advise drivers to still drive carefully. Even if roads are clear, there may be black ice you cannot see.
