WAUSAU (WAOW) -
The Marathon County Sheriff's Department is continuing to warn drivers about icy roads, even when snow is now melting.
A lieutenant there says with colder temperatures overnight, the melted snow can refreeze. He says it may cause another messy commute Monday morning. The lieutenant is advising drivers to watch for spots of black ice.
"Black ice can form when you have a rapid cooling and rapid warming temperatures and you have the moisture and amount of snow,” said Lt. Mark Wagers of the Marathon Co. Sheriff's Dept. “Any of that can affect road conditions and they just need to be aware of it."
The lieutenant reminds drivers to take it slow even when roads appear clear.
