We're still weeks away from baseball season, but the new field manager for the Rafters wanted to get a head start on getting involved with the community.
The Rafters hosted a "hot stove" event tonight to introduce the team's new manager. Former Saginaw Valley State assistant coach Chris Ebright will coach the Rafters in 2014.
Ebright has a well-established coaching resume, one that includes success managing numerous different collegiate summer teams and even earning an independent professional league championship last summer.
Ebright says the baseball atmosphere in Wisconsin Rapids is ultimately what drew him to the accepting the job.
"The players we have coming in, I actually think these guys are gonna be better than my last year's pro team so that's what I'm really excited about," Ebright said.
"The way the community backs this place. That makes the summer so much more enjoyable, you know, seeing the people there every single night. Win or lose they're there until the ninth inning."
The Rafters' 2014 season begins on Tuesday, May 27th.
