Former JC Penney worker sad to see it close

Sherrey Green worked at Wausau's JC Penney store for 30 years.

"I collect a pension, so I am hoping that stays on," said Green.

We met Green at the Marathon County Historical Society where we learned more about JC Penney's history in the Wausau area.

According to newspaper clippings and other papers, the store opened in Wausau back in 1914. It was the first Penney store in the state of Wisconsin.

The company announced Wednesday it will close 33 stores across the country including five in Wisconsin. That includes Wausau and Rhinelander.

This comes just days after Gap and Hollister announced they are also leaving the Wausau Center Mall.
