Hundreds of athletes hit the ice for pond hockey

Hundreds of athletes from five different states competed in the 2014 Leinenkugel's Adult Pond Hockey tournament in Wausau.

The tournament started at 5 p.m. Friday at Sunnyvale Park.

This is the third year for the three-day event.

Organizers say more than 50 teams competed Friday.

"Hockey players just like to get out and play like it was when you were a kid, it's smaller not as structured, you don't have the boards and no goalies and it's just actually kind of like when you were a kid and just went out and played with your friends on the frozen pond," said the tournament director, Jim Brown.

All proceeds from this event benefit local youth hockey.
