Fat bike racing at the Badger State Winter Games in Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The 26th Annual Badger State Winter Games are underway in Wausau.

This year the games feature four new events. On Saturday morning, racers lined up in Wausau for the games' first ever fat bike race. The tires on these bikes are wider and more suited for snowy terrain.

More than 50 competitors dashed through the powder.

The race coordinator, Gary Barden, says the addition of fat biking in the games is good exposure for the sport.

"We're just glad to be a part of it and we're glad to see the riders come out," said Barden. "They've come out from everywhere. We have three riders from St. Louis. We have people from Minneapolis. We have people from Marshfield, so we're drawing quite a crowd. "

Riders could register for a seven, 14 or 21 mile-long race.
