The coordinator of the Wausau Community Warming Center said Thursday that a medical condition led her to resign.

Diane Borchardt helped launch the warming center in downtown Wausau and transitioned it into a new location at 540 South Third Avenue. In a statement Thursday, Borchardt called her time as coordinator very fulfilling.

"I miss the guests and volunteers very much as my passion for them runs very deep. With my resignation I did give a two week notice but the medical condition restricted me from returning for one week," she said.

We were unable to reach Borchardt for comment.

"Diane submitted her resignation and the decision was totally hers. We are now accepting applications on the Catholic Charities web site. I have heard we are getting some qualified candidates," said interim coordinator Bryan Hilts.

Hilts added it is business as usual at the warming center which provides shelter for up to 20 homeless people during the winter months.

My resignation as the Warming Center coordinator was a very hard decision but a medical condition that developed brought me to making it. My time as the Coordinator was very fulfilling and I have great pride in what I helped develop with a facility, the atmosphere, recruitment of volunteers and hospitality we provided. I miss the guests and volunteers very much as my passion for them runs very deep. With my resignation I did give a two week notice but the medical condition restricted me from returning for one week.
