Community leaders provide input for redeveloping part of Wausau
WAUSAU (WAOW) -
Several community leaders met Thursday to brainstorm some ideas for redeveloping part of Wausau.
Project leaders say the near west side project has been in the works for a while. They say Thursday's meeting was to gather input from business owners, neighbors, and others involved.
Project officials say they've heard several ideas. Some include making the area more pedestrian friendly and adding more housing.
"People identify that it's the gateway into our downtown and it's actually part of downtown it's right on the riverfront it's close to the university it has a lot of assets some unique shops that are there and people really think that there's a lot of potential there, " said Wausau City Planner Brad Lenz.
Project leaders say one of the first parts of the project will be to redo 2nd Avenue and Clark Street.
They hope to start that this summer. But city council still has to approve it.
