MARATHON CO. (WAOW) -
The winter weather made for a messy commute this evening. Wisconsin State Patrol officials say the snow caused some slick spots on the roads. Wisconsin State patrol officers say they responded to about ten crashes. None of them involved fatalities or serious injuries. Officers say you need to be aware of black ice on the roads. And to take it slow out there. They say don't underestimate an inch or two of snow. "When we get one or two or three inches it's almost worse for us than if we get a huge snowstorm because people don't heed the warnings and they think they can drive just because the speed limit says 65 they can still drive 65 but even if there is some snow on the ground I'm here to tell you you can't still drive 65 you need to adjust your speed accordingly to the road conditions and the weather conditions," said Wisconsin State Patrol Sgt. Carrie Johnson. State Patrol officials also say drifting snow can reduce visibility.
