Local charities hold 'Passport to Paradise' event

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - The cold weather hitting central Wisconsin has some people dreaming of paradise.

The Boys and Girls Club and the Stevens Point Area YMCA hosted its annual "Passport to Paradise" youth fundraiser in Stevens Point Friday night. The event tapped a tropical destination for its "Havana Nights" theme complete with cuban cuisine, dancing, live music, and a silent auction.

"There's a different theme every year. There's been Las Vegas, there's been Packers, there's been the Love Boat theme, so this year is Havana Nights," said Brittany Melby with the Boys and Girls Club. She said they "just wanted to go with a Cuban theme to link back to a paradise spot."

All proceeds benefit the youth programs of the Boys and Girls Club and the Stevens Point Area YMCA.
