Canoe restoration comes to life in Wausau

Posted:
WAUSAU (WAOW) - Leaders at the Marathon County Historical Society are showing people how canoes can be restored.

Ferdy Goode restores Native American canoes with different carving methods. It takes him a few weeks to restore a full sized canoe.

He held a presentation Sunday in Wausau on how he does it. He says people love to see how the canoes look once he's finished.

"Some people have told me I’ve performed miracles with these old canoes,” said Goode. “In some cases I think maybe I have but it was because of the skills that I’ve developed over years and years and years."

A canoe he restored is on display at the Historical Museum. It is part of the “Our Stories” exhibit.
