Merrill firefighters battle blaze, bitter cold

Town of Rock Falls (WAOW) - Merrill firefighters responded to a house fire in freezing temperatures Tuesday, according to the Merrill Fire Department.

Fire officials say they received a report of a fire on Olivotti Lake Road in the Town of Rock Falls just before 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. They say when they arrived at the fire, the temperature was -5 degrees with wind chills of -26 degrees. Heavy smoke and fire was billowing from the one story log cabin when firefighters arrived, according to officials. The fire department reports two people own the home, but no one was inside the house when the fire began.

A Lincoln County dispatcher tells Newsline 9 that the house was a total loss.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
