Special report: Someone You Should Know

Posted:
Marshfield (WAOW) – It was pure luck that Carolyn Witzel fell into uniform.

“I wasn't interested. He wanted me to join and I didn't want to,” said Witzel. “But, it was a bargain. He said, you join auxiliary, and I'll do this for you.”

Now, sitting in the police station in Marshfield, she can't remember what the bargain was exactly. But, she's sure glad she did it.

“Well, had I known how much I was going to enjoy it I would have joined a long time ago,” said Witzel.

Carolyn and her husband, Rick have been members of the Marshfield Police Auxiliary unit, a volunteer group that assists the police department in every day activities. For more than 35 years Rick and Carolyn have logged thousands of hours. From patrolling the city streets, to handling crowd control for major events, the pair has seen a lot.

“They act as an additional set of eyes and ears for us,” said Sgt. Patrick Zeps.

But what drives this couple to continue? What have they seen in their time out on the road?

Find out Thursday night on Newsline 9 at 10. You'll meet this incredible pair and learn what makes them someone you should know.
