Wisconsin receives federal funds for propane shortage

Wisconsin will get more than $14 million in federal funding to help with the propane shortage in the state.

The announcement was made Thursday and comes just days after U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin and Governor Scott Walker asked the Obama administration for some relief.

I applaud the Obama administration for taking this action in response to the crisis faced by Wisconsin families and businesses,” Baldwin said in a statement.

That money will help pay for heating costs for those with low incomes.

Walker also said he welcomed a review of the impact of propane exports on domestic supply and price and any regulatory barriers that could ease the shipment of propane delivery.

The governor greeted President Barack Obama Thursday as the president landed in Wisconsin to speak in Waukesha.

Wisconsin is in the middle of a bitter winter. That, combined with normal heating cost increases is becoming a burden for many families across the Midwest. On top of that, the price of propane has more than doubled in the past few weeks.
