D.C. Everest honors late father of basketball player

WAUSAU (WAOW) - A D.C. Everest father who suddenly lost his life was remembered Friday.

Eric Kohel was just 38 years old. He died of a heart attack on Sunday. His daughter Kaylee is a junior forward for the D.C. Everest girls basketball team. Kaylee's teammates, coaches, and the community gathered around her Friday at the Evergreen-Lumberjacks game to honor her father's legacy.

"These kids are very close and it affected everybody," said Evergreens head coach Matt Bullis. "We were just really happy to spend some time with her and her family and then I'm glad she was with us tonight."

Kaylee and her friends wore special t-shirts to remember her father. Kaylee didn't play Friday, but she was there to support her team.
