Local high school gets statewide recognition

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Wausau West High School is getting recognized around the state.

The Technology Education Department at the school has been named program of the year. School leaders say this is the first time the high school has received this award.

They say they were nominated for the award and submitted an application for it last year.

A tech ed teacher says about 300 to 400 students are enrolled in tech ed classes.

"It really makes me feel proud that it is certainly a team victory if you will, because we have great students we have great staff we have a very supportive administration and a very very supportive community that have all come together and really made a great experience for the students here at Wausau West," said Theran Peterson, Wausau West technology teacher.

School leaders say they'll receive the award next month at a banquet in Wisconsin Dells.
