Big turnout for first day of tax help in Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Taxpayers waited in line Tuesday for free help from volunteer experts in doing their income taxes.

Organizers of the AARP program say nearly 100 people signed up. The doors opened at 8 a.m.

"Last year, we helped 1,600 people in Marathon County with their taxes. On this first day, we have 96 people signed up. It is a much-needed service," said organizer Cheryl Kelly.

People with low to moderate income are encouraged to sign up for the appointments at the UW-Extension offices at 212 River Drive each Tuesday and Wednesday morning through April 9.
