Treyden's Cabin project grows

MARSHFIELD (WAOW) - It's been described as a children's dreamland.

Named after Treyden Kurtzweil, a one year old boy who lost his battle with leukemia last June, Treyden's Cabin will serve as an exam waiting room for children with cancer.

"The furniture will look like you're in a cabin and there will be 3D murals all over the walls. There will be art and ways for children to engage their imagination," says stewardship coordinator Brooke Wolff.

In November, the clinic reached its goal of raising $50,000. Designs for Treyden's Cabin were already underway but organizers of a local fund raising event called Winterfest wanted to join the cause.

"They mentioned to us that the lobby part for Treyden's Cabin, the money was raised for, but they were looking to do extra things for the rooms the kids get the treatment in,” says Winterfest organizer Kevin Michalski.

Organizers say all the proceeds of Winterfest will make that happen.

"Our goal is to raise ten thousand dollars for the oncology department, the pediatric oncology department up at the Marshfield Clinic," says Michalski.

Clinic leaders say they hope to have Treyden's Cabin finished by the end of the summer. No word on when the rest of department will get its new look.
