Shots fired in Wood County, man arrested

WOOD COUNTY (WAOW) -- A man is in jail after firing shots and running away from officers Thursday night, according to the Wood County Sheriff's Department.

Officials say 26-year-old Randall Bakken was arrested and say charges are being recommended to the Wood County District Attorney.

They say police responded to reports of shots fired at a home on Veedum Street in Pittsville.

Authorities say Bakken fired a gun inside the home and they say he attempted to shoot someone else inside, as well as himself.

They say Bakken left the home before police arrived.

Police say officers found the car in the village of Port Edwards. They say Bakken then drove away, resulting in a short chase.

Authorities say the suspect stepped out of his car and held a rifle to his head, leading to a standoff for more than half an hour.

They say Bakken eventually was able to drive away again, still armed with his gun.

Wood County deputies say they blocked the car in on Moore Road in the town of Cranmoor. They say Bakken finally stepped out of his car and was arrested.

Wood County Jail officials say he is in custody. No charges have been filed.

No officers were injured in the incident, according to Wood County Sheriff's Department officials.
