Plover honors two time Olympian

PLOVER (WAOW) - Friday was Joe Pavelski day in the village of Plover.

"It's time Joe got recognized for it," says Tony Grapsas, President of Jay-Mar.

Pavelski is being recognized for his achievements on the ice.

"We've known him as he's grown up and continue to excel at the professional level. I think this is the first time that the community is kind of saying 'hey this is one of our favorite sons and they can look it up,' "says Grapsas.

The San Jose sharks center is now a two time Olympian, competing in Sochi for U.S. men's hockey. Today, he got the star treatment from his hometown. The village even putting up a sign welcoming people to plover -- the home of Joe Pavelski

"The Olympics are a symbol of national pride and to have one of our own be involved in it is something special, "says Final Score owner Jim Billings.

Newsline 9 met up with Pavelski's family at a restaurant. Dressed in red white and blue, they ordered the special of the day, a Pavelski burger.

"The whole sharks team would like it. The whole Olympic team would like it," says Mike Pavleski.

Locals we talked with say they're not bothered by all the Pavelski hype. They just wish him luck and hope he brings home the gold.
