UPDATE: House destroyed after fire breaks out not suspicious

Posted: Updated:
Town of Bergen - The Mosinee fire chief says the cause of a house fire in the town of Bergen Sunday afternoon is not suspicious.

The chief says it may have been an electrical fire, but the cause is still not known.

He said heavy smoke and flames engulfed the home on Lakehurst Road when firefighters arrived. Authorities say the fire started around 3:30 p.m. The chief said there is major damage to the home.

Sheriff's officials tell Newsline 9 no one was inside the home when the blaze broke out and no injuries were reported.

Several fire crews, including Mosinee and Kronenwetter were on scene. Firefighters say the blaze took several hours to put out.  The chief said the fire department is working with the Marathon County Sheriff's Department to continue the investigation.
