Valentine's Day dinner reservations going fast

MARATHON CO. (WAOW) - Restaurants in the Wausau area are filling up with reservations for Valentine's Day.

Georgie Iozzo, the owner of Iozzo's in Weston, is spending a lot of time on the phone lately.

"Especially yesterday and today," said Iozzo. The phone's been ringing off the hook. I think we're going to be booked. Come Friday, it's going to be walk-ins and you're going to have to wait."

A quick search online on OpenTable shows restaurants are booked.

"Since it falls across a weekend this year, we've actually got two really super busy days," said Kevin Eichelberger, the co-owner of Red Eye.

According to the National Restaurant Association, 25 percent of Americans will dine out on Valentine's Day.

Some restaurants may already be booked up for Valentine's Day, but those looking to make those last-minute plans may still be in luck, as not all restaurants are taking reservations.

At 2510 Restaurant in Wausau, people can call in the day of to make plans.

"It's call ahead seating, so it doesn't guarantee immediate seating, but it will definitely shorten your wait," said Rhonda Feck, the manager of 2510 Restaurant.

But one thing all restaurants will have in common on the special day is extra help.

"We have 14 servers scheduled and we also have an additional assistant on to help bring out food for our guests," said Feck.

Still thinking of a romantic dinner for Valentine's Day? There is still time.

"Get them in early, said Iozzo.

But time is quickly running out.
