Marathon County officer returns to work after jail attack

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says Corrections Officer Julie Christensen has returned to work after being seriously hurt in a jail attack.

Sheriff's officials say the 2013 attack happened after several inmates refused to hand over their meal trays. The jail was put on lockdown.

Investigators say inmate Fredrick Morris because combative and struck Christensen in the head.

Another officer, Denny Woodward, 38 was also injured trying to help Christensen

"Julie will be returning to work on a limited basis as she continues her return to full-time duties," Sheriff Scott Parks said in a release.
