Hundreds hit the ice for major curling championship

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The national spotlight is shining on Wausau's Curling Club.

A major championship tournament is hitting the ice at the new curling center for the first time.

The U.S. Senior Men's Curling Championship kicked off Thursday morning.

Organizers say about 64 teams from across the country are taking part.

They say last years tournament was held at many different curling clubs including one in Portage County. This year it's just in Wausau.

We spoke with a man from Long Beach, CA who says this is a great experience.

"We monitored the weather very closely all last week when it was like 15 below we were pleased to see it above zero this week and we drove in half mile visibility to get here this morning that was a lot of fun but our experience so far has been great," said Ken Millar, of California.

This is a four day event. It wraps up on Sunday.
