Trial date set for Westboro man accused of shooting Taylor Co. deputy

MEDFORD (WAOW) - A trial has been set to begin in July for a Westboro man accused of shooting a Taylor County deputy sheriff, according to online court records.

Alexander Schneider, 28, was charged with attempted first-degree homicide and five other felonies in the Sept. 8 shooting of Deputy Chad Kowalczyk, who was hit once in the abdomen. Schneider pleaded not guilty to six felonies in December 2013.

Online court records show that Schneider's trial will begin on July 21 at 8:30 a.m. at the Taylor County courthouse. It is scheduled to last five days.

Prosecutors say Schneider shot the deputy through the front door of Schneider's home with a .22-caliber rifle and shot at him at least three more times as the deputy fled.

Schneider has been jailed on $1 million cash bond since his arrest.
