Snowshoe racers get competitive in Edgar

EDGAR (WAOW) - Snowshoe racers put their endurance to the test Sunday running through both wide ski trails and narrow single tracks.

The Edgar Area Trail Supporters held their annual 5K snowshoe race today.

Racers started at Edgar High School and continued through Scotch Creek Woodland Preserve.

Organizers say some participants casually enjoyed the trails, and others were there to race. But it's not always so easy to keep up.

"In this type of race here where we start on the flat like this, a number of people burn out in the first half a K. They'll get into the woods and they're already starting to walk because it is deceiving. It's harder than it looks."

With all the snow this winter, it's been hard work keeping the 73-acre preserve maintained.

Organizers say proceeds from the race will go mostly towards trail grooming.
