Hancock man pleads not guilty in heroin death

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - A 26-year-old Waushara County man pleaded not guilty Monday to giving a deadly dose of heroin to a University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point student, according to online court records.

Erik Olsen of Hancock is charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the November death of Jordan Peterson, 22, who the Portage County coroner says died from a heroin overdose.

Prosecutors say Olsen gave the drugs to Peterson the day he died. Peterson was found dead in his off-campus home by a roommate.

Peterson sent a text to Olsen, asking for $25 worth of some type of drug, but Olsen denied finding any drugs for Peterson, the criminal complaint said.

Olsen, who is not a UWSP student, is jailed on a $100,000 cash bond.

In another development, Olsen's attorney filed a motion seeking a change of venue for the trial. No trial date had been set Monday, according to online records.
