Iraqi police say bombings mainly in Baghdad Shiite neighborhoods kill at least 23 people

BAGHDAD (AP) - Baghdad has been hit by a wave of explosions again.

The blasts came shortly after sunset today, hitting crowded commercial areas near mosques in mainly Shiite neighborhoods of the capital. At least 23 people have been killed and dozens more are wounded.

There's been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks, but they bear the hallmarks of Sunni extremist militants who have been seeking to undermine confidence in the Shiite-led government's efforts to maintain security. An al-Qaida breakaway group, known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, has been behind similar attacks in the past.

Iraq is experiencing a resurgence of violence that has reached levels not seen since the worst of the country's sectarian bloodletting began to subside in 2007.
