Unborn baby killed in head-on HW 13 crash

COLBY (WAOW) – An unborn baby died in a head-on crash of two vehicles on slippery state Highway 13 near Colby, the Marathon County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.

The pregnant mother hurt in Tuesday's crash was from Colby, Lt. Fred Goch said. She was alone in the car.

The crash happened about 7:30 a.m. about three miles south of Colby. Slippery roads were a contributing factor, investigators said.

No other details were released Wednesday, including the conditions of the pregnant woman and the female driver of the other car and the age of the fetus.

Goch said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

A crew of medical personnel from Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield en route to the fatal crash in a Spirit intercept vehicle was involved in a separate crash, hospital spokesman Carla David said. There were only minor injuries. No other details were immediately available.
