Wausau employers seeing fewer qualified workers

2014 Economic Report 2014 Economic Report
Wausau area employers say they are seeing a dramatic decrease in qualified job applicants.

That is one of the findings in an annual economic outlook survey conducted by the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce.

The survey of business leaders was done in December and released Thursday.

The survey found 68 percent of business leaders rate their new workers as average to poor.

When the chamber did its first survey three years ago, the percentage was closer to 50 percent.

Chamber leaders say they are bringing together business and education leaders to try to come up with solutions.

Overall, the report showed many businesses have added workers in the past three years and increased wages.

The survey found employers were optimistic the economy was rebounding from the recession.
