Dozens of school districts close early before storm

ROSHOLT (WAOW) - Some school districts in central Wisconsin closed early Thursday, even though the worst of the storm hasn't hit yet.

Marc Christianson, the Superintendent of Rosholt School District, announced the early closure on Wednesday.

Although it was only lightly drizzling when school dismissed at noon, Christianson says he stands by his decision to close school.

"I don't have any regrets at all," said Christianson. "We do want to give [parents] on an early closure, if we can, that advance notice. You make your decision based on the best information you have at the time."

Larry Gagas who picked up his grandchildren, says he agreed with the decision.

"Safety is the main thing," said Gagas.

Since students still attended classes, Christianson says the early closure still counts as a full day of school. Students will not have to make up the time later in the year.

"We do have plenty of instructional minutes, so that's not a problem for us even with the days we've missed so far," said Christianson.

With a short school day on the books, students headed home to wait for the storm to pass.

The superintendent says this year has been a really tough winter.

This year he says Rosholt has had four weather-related closures, which hasn't happened since the 1995-1996 school year.
