Marathon County officials: Drive only if necessary

MARATHON CO. (WAOW) - Due to blowing and drifting snow, the Marathon County Sheriff's Department is advising people to travel only if they need to.

Officers say all north and south highways from south 107 to south 13 are being impacted the most. They expect poor conditions to continue until the winds die down.

"The Marathon County Highway Dept. has been in since 4 a.m., but it's a daunting task dealing with all the blowing snow," said Lt. Bill Millhausen of the Marathon County Sheriff's Dept.

Millhausen says there have been about a dozen slide-ins and crashes Saturday morning.

Officers say I-39 is snow-packed, but passable.
