Rothschild teen battles back from repeated seizures
Teen recovers after seizures
A Rothschild teen has gone six days without suffering a seizure.
That might not sound like much until you realize Vivian Erickson suffered dozens of them a day just a few months ago.
Erickson, 13, remained hospitalized Tuesday at Ministry Saint Joseph's Children's Hospital in Marshfield.
In October, her parents say they made the difficult to decision to have her placed in a medically induced coma in hopes of ending the seizures.
They say the efforts didn't work so she was flown to the Cleveland Clinic where doctors found a mass on her adrenal gland.
"It is believed her body was producing an anti-body in response to that mass. Instead of going to the mass, it was going to her brain and causing all kinds of problems," said Jenny Erickson, Vivian's mother.
Vivian underwent two surgeries and now is recovering.
She is expected to remain hospitalized for at least another month and her mother says she is optimistic the treatment has worked.
Dale's Weston Lanes is hosting a benefit on Saturday to raise money to help the Erickson family defray their medical bills. To learn more click here.
