Wausau City Council rejects proposed Kwik Trip

The Wausau City Council has rejected a proposed Kwik Trip on the city's west side.

Council members failed to rezone for the convenience store Tuesday evening. It was proposed to be built on Bridge Street.

Opponents had said having a Kwik Trip there would make for a bad traffic situation and hurt the surrounding neighborhood. But those in favor said it would bring jobs and tax revenue to the area.

"I still feel that Kwik Trip would have been a great neighborhood partner there for the convenience store, for the ability for people in the neighborhood to possibly get part time jobs," said Wausau City Council member Romey Wagner.

"It's sticking to the vision for that area and wanting to see if a professional building or something of that like could not be a better suit for that area," said Wausau City Council member Karen Kellbach.

The vote failed four to seven.
